Welcome to the Computer Networking Research Laboratory


Enabling communication for high-speed distributed collaborative applications such networks of weather radars require ultra fast, efficient protocols and protocol implementations. In contrast, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) demands for low bandwidth, power efficient, fault tolerant, autonomous protocols and protocol implementations with lower complexity.

CNRL is a research laboratory at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Colorado State University, USA. We are involved in research activities ranging from protocol design and implementation from weather radars to tiny micro sensors. Present and past projects at CNRL include:

  • A. Jayasumana presented a tutorial  on `File Sharing to Resource Sharing – Evolution of P2P Networking,'  at the IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC) , Las Vegas, NV, Jan. 2012.

  • Dulanjalie Dhanapala won the ISTeC Doctoral Student Scholar Award,  2011. The Information Science and Technology Center (ISTeC) Doctoral Student Scholar Award recognizes outstanding Ph.D. students who demonstrate the potential to make a significant impact in information science and technology (IS&T). IS&T is defined as the design or innovative application of computer, communication, and information systems. Awardee retains the title of ISTeC Doctoral Student Scholar until graduation.

  • A. Jayasumana presented a seminar on  'Virtual Coordinate Based Techniques for Self-Organization and Routing in Sensor Networks,' at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, Nov. 10, 2011.

  • Saket Doshi defended his M.S. thesis on `Applications of Inertial Measurement Units In Monitoring Rehabilitation Progress of Arm in Stroke Survivors,' August 16,  2011

  • "Topology Preserving Maps From Virtual Coordinates for Wireless Sensor Networks" by D. Dhanapala and A. Jayasumana won the Best Paper Award at  LCN 2010- The 35th IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN), October 2010.

  •  "An Outlier Detection Based Approach for PCB Testing," X. He, Y. K.  Malaiya, A. P. Jayasumana, K. P. Parker and S. Hird,  Proc. 40th International Test Conference (ITC09), Austin, Texas, November 2009, was among the finalists for the best paper award.
